The American Legion Cherokee County Fair started in 1928. Before 1928 there were two events. The County Fair, which was held in the City Park annually and the American Legion Soldiers & Sailors Reunion, held each year on the present fair grounds. The powers to be from both events decided it would be best to combine the two events into one big celebration and since the American Legion had the property big enough to hold an event that large, it was decided to hold it on their property. That's how the County Fair of today came about, back in 1928.
